Have a look at this article before buying any heater
As the weather turns cold, it will be important to keep ourselves warm. We do not have a central heating system in Nepal. So, a portable electric heater is the best option to keep our home warm. It is also great for camping and other outdoor activities. We can get many types of heaters in the market. These days halogen heaters and fan heaters are widely used.
Halogen Heaters
Halogen heaters operate by radiating infrared light. They use halogen elements enclosed in lamps and thus heat the object quickly. Technically they do not heat the air in the room. Halogen heaters are light, portable, and efficient. And they are quite risky to use near the bed. Price ranges from Rs. 900 to higher in Nepali markets.
Fan Heaters
These heaters have the ability to warm up a small room in under ten minutes. There are two simple settings in these devices- warming and cooling air and auto cut off function that detects when the heater is no longer needed. They are not too risky as compared to halogen heaters. Price ranges from Rs. 1000 to above in Nepali market.
While using any types of heaters you should follow the following precautions:
- Put your heater on a level surface, away from anything that could knock it over.
- Make sure no combustible materials like paper, oil, petrol, clothes, etc are nearby.
- Do not try to dry clothes using the heater.
- Never connect the power using an extension cord. Use only power plugs.
- Inspect your heater regularly to avoid any accidents.
- Avoid second-hand heaters and buy from trusted manufacturers and retailers.
- Do not close windows and doors completely while using the heater. Excess heat may cause suffocation and affects breathing.
